James Gregory – Funniest Man in America

The Old Post Office Playhouse is proud to present James Gregory, the Funniest Man in America on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 7:30 pm.

James creates an evening of non-stop laughter with a wry sense of the absurd, a Southern accent and universal story-telling. The ridiculous, the common and sometimes even the simplest events all become hilarious in the hands of this master storyteller and world-class comedian.
The James Gregory show turns the clock back to a time when life was simpler; to a better time, before the death of common sense; a time when people sat on the front porch and actually talked to each other without a cell phone in their ear.
Gregory’s success, like his comedy, is the direct result of the values he grew up with. It is this unique brand of humor that packs the crowds into his sold-out shows. The absence of vulgarity sets James apart and his stories are carefully crafted art. “I have lived long enough to know people, know life,” Gregory reflects. “My comedy is based on my life experiences. It’s real, it’s funny and the audience loves it. That’s why I’m still in business.”
Tickets for this event are $35 for Artist Circle Seating, and all other seats are $27. Tickets are on sale now at the Old Post Office Playhouse box office. Call 828-464-6128 between the hours of 10:00 am – 5:30 pm Wednesdays – Fridays to purchase tickets.

Sydney Shepherd in Concert at OPOP

The Old Post Office Playhouse is proud to present Sydney Shepherd in concert on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 8:00 pm.

Sydney Shepherd is a North Carolinian singer, songwriter, and multifaceted musician. She is also an actress currently attending her senior year of college at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts BFA Drama Program.  She grew up in Catawba County, attended St. Stephens High School, and was involved in many Green Room and Hickory Community Theatre shows through her childhood and teenage years.

Sydney’s first EP of original songs, “Gypsy Life”, was recorded and released this past summer. Sydney is a classically trained vocalist and cellist and has picked up the banjo, dulcimer, guitar, piano, dulcijo, and Celtic harp along her musical journey. Her voice has been likened to Ingrid Michelson, Zooey Deschanel and Regina Spektor. One reviewer described her style as: “The beautiful orchestration of Nick Drake married to a young girl who just wants to tell you how much she loves you. It’s inspiring that someone could so easily remind you of what running barefoot felt like.” She hopes that she can inspire you in the same way.

Tickets for this event are only $10 with a special rate for children age 12 and under of $5.  Tickets are on sale now at the Old Post Office Playhouse box office.  Call 828-464-6128 between the hours of 10:00 am – 5:30 pm Wednesdays-Fridays to purchase tickets.
